In Ireland, a land in love with words, stories are treasured and the storyteller, or Shanachie {Sha-na-kee} - a combination of poet, sage, and wit - is revered.

The story of The Shanachie Irish Pub and Restaurant has its beginnings in Coalisland, County Tyrone. There, Gerry Timlin developed an early interest in traditional Irish music. By 16, he had won the first of many international song contests. Before long Gerry was weaving the songs and stories of his native land into captivating stage performances on this side of the Atlantic.

After one such performance Gerry met Ed Egan, who had also been "raised on songs and stories" - to borrow a phrase from songwriter, Pete St. John. The two became friends, sharing an appreciation of Irish music, culture, literature, and yes - pubs. Over the years they talked about creating their own pub where guests would feel the warmth and welcome of Gerry's quaint hometown. The name of their pub would be The Shanachie. When the two friends found Ambler and saw its on-going renaissance they knew The Shanachie had found a home. But Gerry and Ed also had another renaissance in mind - the culinary renaissance that has swept Ireland in recent years.

So come enjoy The Shanachie's traditional favorites and delectable new creations. Let your toes tap and your hands clap along with the finest Irish musicians from both sides of the Atlantic. And while your voice is raised in song, if you'd care to raise a glass, we'll be glad to pour you a perfect pint of Guinness or offer you something from our vast selection of wines, imported and domestic beers, and Scotch and Irish whiskies.

We hope to see you soon.

Slainte,
Gerry Timlin and Ed Egan
